Value in Health

CEDAR has a team of researchers led by Kathleen Withers dedicated to the National Value in Health (ViH) Programme. Value in Health is a national programme of work striving towards achieving a Value-Based Health Care approach across NHS Wales in support of Prudent Healthcare principles.

CEDAR's role in Value in Health

CEDAR is supporting the Welsh Value in Health Centre by providing analytical and evaluation capacity, advising on PROMs selection, use and administration, and supporting the production of outputs and reports for presentations, conferences and publications. Our role requires us to collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders including patients, clinicians, and Health Board and Welsh Government representatives for both local and national projects. Core activities undertaken by CEDAR to support the Welsh Value in Health Centre include:

  • To undertake all aspects of data analysis, data quality and reporting, including:
    • To provide data advice and guidance when required, including as part of wider programme initiative such as the National Data Repository and the PROM Data Standard Change Notice review
    • Data cleansing, data linkages, data structures, statistical analysis and data visualisations;
    • To support user acceptance testing and provide general support, including validation (scoring, dashboards, visualisations and other services including PROMs, data linkages).
  • Provide advice and guidance on all license matters, where necessary to manage payment/renewals of all existing national licenses;
  • Investigate the PROMs tools available for new conditions, source, negotiate and agree new national licenses;
  • Provide translation services, including scientific translation & Welsh language validation of PROMs tools
  • Qualitative data collection (e.g. focus groups / interviews)

In addition to the core activities, CEDAR also provides a number of other services such as bespoke analysis, research, evaluation & implementation on behalf of Value in Health such as research facilitation, grant proposals, trials management, and dissemination.
